Finally some answers…

You may or may not have noticed in some pictures, Chloe has really watery eyes and/or tear streaks on her face:
Well, we took Chloe to the vet today, since we both had the day off, and because she should have gone in for her One Year Check back in September. Oh well, better late than never!

Last time we took her in was back in June, because we were worried about her eyes and she was breathing kind of funny. They put some dye in her eyes and said that her ducts seemed just fine. So we were sent home with out any answers as to why she always had sad eyes!

Well, in the last 6 months, her lower eye lids have actually started to curl inward slightly. And this time the doctor was able to diagnose her with “Entropion“. Apparently it is more common in dogs and somewhat rare in cats!

Here is an excerpt from that article I just liked you to:

“Entropion is an inward rolling of the eyelid edges. It is an uncommon problem in the cat, but when it does occur it usually affects the lower eyelids. Unlike the dog, inherited entropion of a young animal is uncommon in the cat. Occasionally inherited entropion of the lower lid is present in purebred cats that have short, round faces.”

So what is happening is when she blinks, the little hairs on her eye lids are scratching her eyes. The corner of her eyes are almost always red. (hmmm red eyes…just like her mommy always has!)

The opposite of Entropion is Ectropion…which is common for dogs like the bloodhound…you know, where their eyes droop.

So lucky us, we have a rare kitty! Right now, her eyeballs are ok, and so we are just going to hope that she stays the same and does not get worse. Worst case scenario, they will have to cut some of her lower lid in hopes that it will cause the lid to roll out.

Also, we learned that Chloe now weighs TEN POUNDS!! She’s doubled her weight since we’ve had her. But, this also means that she is ONE lb overweight. One kitty pound = 20 human lbs! So….Chloe will now be on a diet, just like her mommy and daddy! YAY!

Anyway, all that news, three shots, and some deworming gel on her back later, we’re home and relaxing. She was a brave little girl and the vet techs LOVED her!
